Axero Solutions – Log Archive Settings

This guide will teach you how to set the log archive settings, which control how often certain pieces of data are archived or deleted. “Activity logs” and “activity feeds” will be compressed and archived so you can access them later. “Exception logs,” “emails,” and “background task logs,” however, will be deleted permanently to maintain your server’s performance speed.

How to Find Log Archive Settings

To find the log archive settings, go to the “Archive settings” page by following these steps:

  1. Click the gear icon at the very top right corner of any public Communifire webpage.
  2. Select “Admin dashboard.”
  3. Hover your cursor over the “System” drop-down menu. Select “Archive settings.”

Log Archive Settings

There are a total of five log archive settings. The data records of some of these settings will be “compressed and archived,” while others will be “deleted.”

Compress And Archive Group

The records in these settings take up very little space, so they will be archived and saved for you to view whenever you need them.

  1. “Activity log”
  2. “Activity feed”

Delete Group

The records in these settings take up more space on your server, so they will be permanently deleted to help maintain server performance.

  1. “Exception log”
  2. “Email”
  3. “Background task log”

Archive Rules

All five of these log archive settings have three rules that determine how their data is archived or deleted, which include:

  1. Records
  2. Interval
  3. and Max Records

Min. Records: This rule determines how many records (or pieces of data) a setting can have before Communifire starts to archive or delete the excess.

Example: If you set the min. records for “email” to 1000, then Communifire will always keep exactly 1000 email messages on your server. If your server reaches 1001 emails, Communifire will begin searching for records that are ready to be archived or deleted. The interval rule determines when a record is ready to be archived or deleted.

Interval: This rule determines how old a record must be before it can be archived or deleted. Once every day, Communifire will search for records that are old enough to be archived or deleted. The “background task log”, however, searches twice a day.

Example: If you set the interval for “email” to 120, then any email that is over 120 days old will be deleted. However, this only works if the number of emails on your server exceeds the min. records. If you only have 999 emails, but some of them are over 120 days old, those emails will not be deleted until you reach 1001 emails.

Max Records: This rule determines how many records are deleted or archived per day (or twice a day with the “background task log”). Deleting too many records at once could put a strain on your server, so choose a max record that works best for your server.

Example: If you set the max record for “email” to 500, then up to 500 emails – that are over 120 days old and exceed the min. records of 1000 – will be deleted per day. If you have a total of 1,501 emails on your server, and 501 of them are over 120 days old, it will take two days to delete these old records. On the first day, 500 old emails will be deleted. On the second day, one old email will be deleted.
